The 365 Painting Show Is THIS FRIDAY! (Also: The book is ready!)

It's almost here artfam!! The culmination of all of the hard work, uncertainty, love, drive, exhaustion...

Here are all of the details (which you can also find on Facebook here):

August 2nd First Friday Ypsilanti @ Pearl Street Studios
108 Pearl Street
Ypsilanti, MI 48197
5-11pm
FREE
Kids welcome!

Seriously, I'd LOVE to see you (it's also the day after my bday - what a present you'd be!). Here's what one person said about seeing the wee paintings in person:

These paintings are amazing online, but the full impact of the detail, precision, and skill does not really hit you until you see it in person. They're smaller than a quarter in many cases. It blows my mind." - Stephanie S.

A full THIRD of the project has been snatched up by collectors (holy moley, you guys!), but so many are left! You can snag yours at the event or get in touch and we can do it all online via PayPal or Venmo. Check out this handy visual guide to what's available!

"How much are these little guys?", I sense you are wondering:
- One painting is $75
- A pair of paintings is $135
- A trio of paintings is $200
- Four paintings is $275
- More than four? You scamp! Drop me a note!
(note: all prices are USD & shipping is an additional $5, if applicable)

To whet that whistle, here are a few images from the recent marathon of show prep. I surprised myself with my carpentry "skills" and I hope to get a ton of use out of the easels. (more art fairs?? maybe!) Also, you might catch sight of my progeny getting in on the act - "This is FUN, Mom!!"

Next, I've partnered with Society6 so you can have posters (or prints... maybe a pillow?) that compile ALL of the paintings for each day of the week.

Do you love ALL of the animals on Thursday? See left! All of the plants? Check out that one at this link:

BOOK! BOOK! BOOK!
POSTER! POSTER! POSTER!

Last but NOT least, this project is now A BOOK and a POSTER SERIES! Yeah, you read that right :D

I self-published a 100-page, 8" x 8", book through blurb.com!!

It comes in three physical formats (soft-cover, hardcover with dust jacket, or hardcover with imagewrap), as an e-book or PDF.

It's HERE! The Final Week of the 365 Project! (plus some announcements)

It's here! It's the LAST WEEK OF MY 365 PAINTING PROJECT! "What are they talking about??", I sense you are asking yourself (#realtalk I haven’t posted in this section SINCE THE FIRST DAY of the project, so… I don’t blame you). ANYhoo, lemme let you about it!

I started this project in 2018 with a big goal - to FINALLY FINISH a 365 art series. So, I dissected what held me back in previous attempts and I identified the following overarching theme - I need to make it easier on myself. Lower those barriers that got in my way *just* long enough to have doubt creep in and spoil the party.

The creation of the art was not the stumbling block... it was the practical parts:

  • having paper at the ready

  • giving myself a time constraint (so I didn't lose steam day-after-day creating paintings that took 3+ hours)

  • subjects chosen ahead of time

To that end, I broke down the world of potential subjects (because it is really nearly an *endless* supply of ideas out there) into seven distinct themes for each day of the week. I spent a bleary hour standing at my sink scrawling them into my journal (see image below):

  • Morgue Mondays (body, medical)

  • Junk in Your Trunk Tuesdays (toys, random lost bits, ephemera, knick knacks, tchotchkes)

  • Weed, et al. Wednesdays (plants, plant parts)

  • Taxidermy Thursdays (animals, creepy crawlies)

  • Foodie Fridays (food, drinks)

  • Sashay Saturdays (fashion, stuff you wear)

  • Side-Trip Sundays (landscapes, destinations)

Has it been an unbroken road? Heck no! I stopped for nearly two months around Nov-Dec 2018. I stopped again in May of THIS year - right at the finish line! I really thought it was over during that first one, if I’m honest. I’ve blown five (?) finish dates, I think? But you know… eventually… just one mark at a time - hell, one butt cheek on the chair at a time, it was that hard to re-start - and I got going again.

So, what’s happening NOW? Check it out!

  • The paintings are on sale! Since July 11th, SIXTY (6-0) of them - a sixth of the project - have new happy homes. If you want one, please drop me an email ASAP!

  • A gallery show is happening! For one night only, on First Friday here in Ypsilanti MI (Aug. 2nd), all of the paintings will be hung at Pearl Street Studios! Here’s the Facebook event with all of the details.

  • The photo book is almost ready! This little piece is actually a big reveal as I haven’t publicized it before now. It will be sold through Blurb in multiple formats INCLUDING e-book (!!) - stay frosty for the announcement with the link to purchase (which should be within the week).

  • A few more surprises I’ll roll out very soon too!

Lastly, enjoy a little grid of 365-related images from IG:

Two New Online Exhibitions Contain My Work!

Gallery 25N "Faces of Humanity" Exhibition
Opens Feb. 6, 2017

Huzzah! 5 of my Derby Portraits were chosen for an online "Faces of Humanity" exhibition that opens later this week at gallery25N.com!

Thank you to my roller derby teammates from the Ann Arbor Derby Dimes for their faces!

See all of them (there are 14) here on my website, if you're curious (and haven't heard me talk about this a million times): http://www.meganlovestodraw.com/derbyportraits

FusionArt.com - Watercolor Quarterly Group Exhibition
January 15, 2017 - April 14, 2017

It's also an honor to be chosen for a small group of 8 watercolorists for this Fusion Art exhibition.

They say, "Eight artists were chosen to participate in Fusion Art's first quarterly group exhibition. All the artists who participated in the competition have uniquely creative talents but the winners chosen exemplify a mastery in the use of the watercolor medium."

As someone who was never a natural painter, this is so gratifying. Perseverance pays off, friends. A big thank you to Peggy Macnamara without whom I would've never thought this medium was within my reach. Onward!

A Slideshow from Hanging My Art Prize 2016 Entry!

My entry, "How to Draw the Human Eye", is up and ready for your eyeballs at Women's City Club's gallery (254 E. Fulton Street, Grand Rapids, MI - just up the street from the BOB, where I was last year)! It's part of a stunning group of work... it's really worth a look!

Art Prize begins officially on Sept 21st (next Wed) and runs through Oct 9th. First round voting to determine the finalists is only during the first week, so, if you're interested in that, that's my best intel (you have to be IN Grand Rapids to vote, btw). To vote for my entry, my ID# is 62588. It's also displayed by my piece, as you can see.  If you go see my work, comment below! I wanna know! Bonus points for a picture of you with it :D

The Last Week Before Art Prize Goes Up

Whatta whirlwind! Everything is coming together for the hanging of my Art Prize entry at Women's City Club later this week. First off, the timelapse montage is finally done! You can watch it below:

Of course, it'd be even BETTER to see it IN PERSON alongside the actual drawings later this month, so, if you have the means, please consider going! (and throwing a vote my way if you like what I've done - I'm artist #62588) First round voting is 9/21 - 10/1, so, that's the BEST time to visit, in my opinion ;)

I'm framing all of the drawings myself with the help of my kits from American Frame, whom I love. A third (if not more) of the cost of sending it out to be fancified? I'll take it! I'm good with putting things together if I have the materials - a perfect fit as everything came in pristine condition and ready to go. So, if you're in the market, check them out! ESPECIALLY if you are within the vicinity of Toledo because you can also skip shipping and just go to their showroom to retrieve it all. Win!

This time of year always gets a little nuts, and apparently I have selective amnesia about that because I was feeling surprised (??). Get it together, self... this is the way of things when it comes to Art Prize - and all worth it!

Next up: find a cord to transfer my video to my tablet, frame that sucker, and finish putting the hanging hardware on everything. Bring it on Friday!

Take a Virtual Spin Around My 1st Solo Show!

Click on HERE to view the panorama above in 360 degrees (you may need to click the image to make it rotate)!

BIG thanks to Katrina (the gallery's curator) and my dear friend Rob for all of the help making this a reality - there's no way it would've happened without you!

Wanna see these in person? The show (A Bout Face) opens tomorrow, 5/6, at 5pm (until ?pm) at Lansing, MI's MICA Gallery in Old Town (visit the FB Event or the gallery's website for more information). The whole thing will be on display until the end of June.

**If you stop in, please sign the guestbook under my self-portrait so I know you came!

PS: Is this a dream??! EXCITE!

Four New Derby Portraits Underway!

In anticipation of my solo show at MICA in Lansing next month, I've begun several new carbon dust roller derby portraits! Just as with the last group, the paper here has been skated on by The Ann Arbor Derby Dimes (my league), and then the skaters are drawn with carbon dust over top. These are 22 x 30" and on Arches' hot press watercolor paper.

If you want to see them in person and live in Michigan/Ohio/Indiana/Narnia, please come out to the show which opens on May 6th and will run until July 2nd. There's a FB event HERE.

Enjoy!

Breaking News! A Derby Portrait is Going to London!

...and it's my self-portrait that was chosen. So fitting! (I have spent a lot of time in the UK, and hello, it's a drawing competition!) To say that I'm honored, humbled, and thrilled is a gross understatement! Also, I'm under-the-weather and it's Monday, so, thanks for the pick-me-up, Derwent!  ...AHHHH!! See the entry HERE.

The First Friday Art Show is in 4 Days!

Just to recap:

An early preview of my Art Prize derby portraits will take place at Massage Mechanics (#12 below) on Friday, June 6th from 6-9pm! Local folks, come on out and see all of these lovely ladies (and gents - soon!) for yourself at Ypsi's June First Friday. I'd love to see/meet you :)
