I'm Developing a New Technique (Samples Inside!)

Hoooo boy! Just typing that title makes my heart race a bit. EXCITING!

Above & below are some big-time "mixed media" drawings/paintings... by "big-time", I mean, take virtually everything I've used as a medium over the years and throw it together and voila! Here we are and I'm preliminarily calling them "water carbons".

I've done all of these in the last few days, that's how electrified this has me (and there's a 5th at the sketch stage as I type this, even - see below for a peek). I'm really interested to hear what you think, if you could leave a comment (or a heart), that'd be swell. #moreart

How I do.

How I do.

Switching Gears Toward Art Prize

No rest for the wicked! I have a bear of an Art Prize piece to finish, so, I've hit the ground running with a new eye drawing (upper left, below). I haven't posted many of these to my newsfeed, so, here's a little gallery of all eleven that I have done, so far. I'm hoping to complete 100 when the proverbial fat lady sings:

The New Derby Portraits are Done! Time to Hang Them!

Dreamy is done! Hooray!

Now it's off to Lansing tonight to hang 'A Bout Face' at the MICA gallery in Old Town! This is my first solo show and I'm really, really thankful for the opportunity. Hopefully, this will go really well and even more opportunities are right around the corner!  #projectjustanartist

It Has Begun - My 2015 Art Prize Entry

Gulp! Here we go again - I'm excited to announce that I've thrown my artistic hat back into the Art Prize ring with my large carbon dust portrait - "Rob" - which you may have seen glimpses of in my Instagram feed or on YouTube where I've been posting time lapse photos of the creation of this piece.

Rob - the largest drawing I've ever done - 20 x 80" - carbon dust & white chalk, 2015.

Some details of the piece (which is very close to being complete) are above. Below is the first time lapse video... in my opinion, the most dramatic of the series. Enjoy!

One More Day to Vote for my Self-Portrait!

If you haven't seen it before, this roller derby self-portrait was created with carbon dust/pencil on paper that I had my derby teammates skate over. So, dirt & rink crud is definitely part of thee piece. This was the first attempt at what would be my series for last year's Art Prize. So, if you like it, could you give me a vote? Voting closes tomorrow: https://jerrysartarama.wishpond.com/2015-jerrys-artarama-self-portrait-contest/entries/17456978

Thank you!

I Drew That - Movie Poster - Violets

Last fall, I made a connection on the Facebook (thanks, Christy!) with Jim Vendiola, the creator of the indie suspense film "Violets" (trailer at the bottom, btw). He asked if I could create some portraits of the main characters for the film's poster and I did:

The word today is that the film has been selected in two film festivals! I'm proud to have been a small part.

Theatrical Trailer:

Two strange, reclusive sisters quietly await the advent of their secretly twisted plan. It's time to cut the apron strings. Inspired by True Events "Difficult to describe...but impossible to forget." -The Independent Critic "Peppered with touches reminiscent of Michael Haneke’s best work." -Rogue Cinema "...a well-made psychological thriller that draws you in with its arresting visuals and very satisfying conclusion." -10,000 Bullets “[Violets] will creep you out...curse you, Jim Vendiola.” -Unseen Films
