My entry, "How to Draw the Human Eye", is up and ready for your eyeballs at Women's City Club's gallery (254 E. Fulton Street, Grand Rapids, MI - just up the street from the BOB, where I was last year)! It's part of a stunning group of work... it's really worth a look!
Art Prize begins officially on Sept 21st (next Wed) and runs through Oct 9th. First round voting to determine the finalists is only during the first week, so, if you're interested in that, that's my best intel (you have to be IN Grand Rapids to vote, btw). To vote for my entry, my ID# is 62588. It's also displayed by my piece, as you can see. If you go see my work, comment below! I wanna know! Bonus points for a picture of you with it :D
All are about 6x6" on smooth bristol, all are done in pencil. There is some ink in the first three as well. It's a really interesting addition to my drawings and I'm really glad I've been giving myself the space to experiment with it.
If you're interested in attending Art Prize and seeing my piece (which will also include video) - I'll be showing at Women's City Club near the city center in Grand Rapids. It runs from September 21st to October 9th. My artist number (for voting) is 62588.
All of the artwork has a page of its own HERE.
So, I was just updating my Drawing-A-Day page (which isn't truth-in-advertising, I grant you) when I realized something momentous:
I'VE CREATED 600 SMALL PAINTINGS & DRAWINGS*
That's just madness. What's even MORE mad is that I feel like I could/should be doing more! Oh, self.
So, it's my birthday and I thought I'd share all 600 (+1) pieces with you! Enjoy! Do you have a favorite?? Click through to their page to see them up close & personal - these are just screen shots :)
*NOT including the derby portraits, Rob, the eyes for Art Prize, my work illustrations, etc.
I've opened a new shop on etsy.com to showcase all of the work I've got available for sale. If you followed my 'redmeg8' store, could you please take a moment to follow 'meganlovestodraw' instead?
This will be an active shop and will having new things for sale on a more regular basis.
Thank you and share with your friends!
No rest for the wicked! I have a bear of an Art Prize piece to finish, so, I've hit the ground running with a new eye drawing (upper left, below). I haven't posted many of these to my newsfeed, so, here's a little gallery of all eleven that I have done, so far. I'm hoping to complete 100 when the proverbial fat lady sings:
So, I was really keen to work on a non-caucasian skin tone AND eye shape, so here we are! I toned the paper first and "built" the portrait on top (with some erasing). As I was working, I realized that my pencil arsenal did not have the range to get the deep darks I wanted (sorry, 4B).
So, what did I do? I gingerly grabbed a sharpie and filled in the iris and pupil. Then, I got a black Bic pen and enhanced the skin folds - it gave a nice depth of tone that wasn't as bold as the sharpie, but darker than the pencils. At the end, I REALLY pressed my luck and used Sharpie veeeeeery lightly in the upper eye creases and the corners of the eye.
So, what do you think? I'm calling it a great first try... for now. :)
